Blackshear Morrison Bryan (1900-1977) was born in Alexandria, Louisiana. After graduating from West Point in 1922, he commissioned with the field artillery. During World War II, he worked for the General Staff of the War Department and the office of the provost general. He made brigadier general in 1942. He attended public school in Hobgood, N.C., and then received a law degree (1923) and a bachelor of science degree (1925) from Wake Forest University.
